2.4 GHz & 5 GHz
Frequency License
Under the Telecommunications Law of the Kingdom of Bahrain any person that operates a telecommunications network that uses radio frequency spectrum in Bahrain, or is using any equipment associated with such a network, is required to hold a frequency license. This is a broad reaching provision and catches many situations such as, for example, a person using a wireless connection for their laptop in their home or at a cafe.
To ensure that everyone has the opportunity to comply with the Telecommunications Law the TRA has developed a system that allows people to apply for such a license on-line, using this application form. It is designed to be user friendly and quick, while still complying with legal requirements.
You should take note of the following important issues:
- People using telecommunications frequency without a license will be in breach of the Telecommunications Law and may be subject to legal action.
- This License will be for 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz spectrum (Bands A and C). As such holders of this license can use any of these spectra, but subject to the technical specifications in the License - people who use the spectrum outside of these specifications may be considered to be using telecommunications frequency without a license and, as per point 1 above, may then be subject to legal action.
- This License is available to both users who wish to use it for a public telecommunications service and private users. If you intend to use this spectrum to provide a public telecommunications service you must ensure that you hold all other relevant licenses issued by the TRA to allow you to conduct the activity legally - if you need further information regarding this you can contact the TRA.
- It is a requirement of the Telecommunications Law that the TRA maintain a public register of all license holders, as such some of the information provided by you will be accessible by the public. The only information that will be provided by the TRA to the public will be your name/company name and the location at which you will use the telecommunications frequency.
